Harvey Fierstein is the winner of Tony Awards in five different categories. Actor in a Musical for "Hairspray",
Actor in a Play, Best Play for writing and starring in "Torch Song Trilogy" and Best Book of a Musical and Best Revival
for writing "La Cage Aux Folles". He has been honored with the Humanitas Award, three Drama Desk Awards
and many more. Jerry Herman is a composer lyricist. His first successful Broadway musical, "Milk and Honey"
(1961), was followed by the Tony Award winning hits "Hello Dolly" (1964), "Mame" (1966), and "La Cage
Aux Folles" (1983), the first Broadway musical to protray a homosexual relationship.
La Cage Aux Folles adds new dimensions to the boulevard comedy about homosexuals whose twenty years of domestic
tranquility are shattered when a son, fathered during a one night fling, decides to marry the daughter of a bigoted politician. Albin
and Georges run a transvestite nightclub where Albin is the featured performer Zaza. Georges agrees to masquerade as
"normal" when he meets the father of the bride to be, with hilarious results.
