Jill Waskom, Head Coach

Jill has been coaching volleyball for over 18 years, with this being her third season at Summit High School.  In her first two seasons at Summit, she led the team to 2nd and 3rd place finishes at State and was named the Oregon 5A Coach of the Year in 2008.  Before coming to Summit, Jill was the head coach at Mountain View High School where she led the Cougars to consecutive IMC titles in '05 and '06, finishing 2nd at State in '06 - as well as earning the Oregon 5A Coach of the Year that same season.  In the off season, Jill coaches club for the younger age divisions with the Oregon Volleyball Academy.  Jill played collegiately at Oregon State and enjoys triathlons, sand volleyball, running, cycling and being with her family (3 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, a fish, and Turner) in her free time - which is none.

Turner Waskom, Varsity Coach

Turner was born in the remote jungles of Siam, where he was raised by a family of Siberian tigers.  He never knew his true parents and rumors have spread throughout the internet that he was born of midi-chlorians and is, in fact, The Chosen One.  Upon obtaining his second Nobel Prize in the early 90's, this one for Economics, Turner turned his attention to coaching volleyball and has been coaching ever since.  Turner is also a James Beard Award winning chef, plays OPP for team SYMBAD, and has won the Tour de France 4 times.  When not telling Jill how to run the team, he enjoys playing with his daughters and instructing them in the ways of The Force.  In his spare time, he works for Wells Fargo as a Business Banker.

Drew Schulte, JV Coach and Varsity Asst.

Previously coaching the last couple of years with Oregon Volleyball Academy and Mountain View High School, Drew is eager to be back for his second year with the Summit Storm.  Coming off a successful JV season last year, Drew is ready to keep the winning tradition alive at Summit for the 2009 season.  To stay fit and agile, Drew is the starting outside hitter and captain of team SYMBAD - alongside Jill's husband, Turner Waskom.  Outside of volleyball, Drew's interests are muscle cars, muscle tees, beach volleyball, snowboarding, and collecting impressionist paintings of kittens.

Nicole Miles, Freshman Coach

Nicole has been coaching at Summit since 2005 and is really excited about this season. Coaching the freshmen level is always an adventure and an experience getting to know the girls as they are entering high school; and she's really looking forward to another winning season as the 2009 frosh takes on the IMC.  In her free time Nicole coaches at the 14s level for Oregon Volleyball Academy and really enjoys being competitive in whatever she pursues.  She also enjoys snowboarding, shopping, traveling, and a good game of chess or hold'em whenever possible.  Her next endeavor is tennis as well as continuing to live life to its fullest.  Here's to a great season!.

Blair Hanson Struble, Assistant Coach

Blair grew up in Bend and played volleyball at Mountain View High School as well as playing club volleyball for High Desert VBC. She played collegiately at Willamette University, served as team captain for two years, and coached at numerous Piper Volleyball Camps. Blair just returned to Bend this winter after completing her Orthodontic residency program at the University of Washington in Seattle and now practices orthodontics at Gobeille Orthodontics. In her free time she enjoys running, snowboarding, hiking and camping with her husband Trebor and her yellow labrador Boss.

Lisa Zimmerman, Conditioning Coach

Lisa was a track star at the University of Oregon from 1981 - 1985, competing in the low jump (a U of O only sport). In 1984, Lisa switched events and enjoyed much better success in the 400 hurdles, earning a chance to compete in the Olympic Trials that summer where she just narrowly missed a spot on the Olympic team when 15 other competitors nudged her out. During her senior year, she took pity on Gary Zimmerman, a local student training to be a Jedi warrior, and they were married shortly thereafter. As we all know, Gary eventually gave up his dreams of being a Jedi and sought employment for tasks that were not as intellectually challenging; eventually finding work dressed in padding from head to toe and standing in front of very large, angry men. Lisa has been a Track and Field coach here at Summit since 2002 and is involved with the Education Foundation for Bend-La Pine Schools, along with numerous other activities. We are extremely proud and excited to have Lisa on staff with the volleyball program - even if that means Gary has to be around sometimes.
